Staff software engineer in Pittsburgh. Seventeen years of production work, the last two on agent platforms, mostly the unglamorous parts: tool boundaries, approval gates, tracing, and working out what "did this work" even means when the output is different every run.

Most of what I write here comes out of that.

Before this it was healthcare payments and financial services, which is a long way of saying I've spent my career in places where you can't ship it and see what happens.

outside that

I follow markets and I like competing at things that keep score. Poker mostly. The useful part isn't the gambling, it's that both force you to separate a good decision from a good outcome, which turns out to be the entire problem with evaluating anything non-deterministic.

Hockey.

I'm building a new site for the Harmony Museum, a historical society about thirty miles north of here that looks after nine properties from the early 1800s. An 1805 barn, a wine cellar, a cabin where a young George Washington was nearly shot. Their photo library is from 2019 and tops out at 1024px, which shaped the design more than anything else did.
